Make An Effort To Introduce Yourself, Remember How It Feels To Be The Outsider
I think that at one point or another in our lives we all find ourselves in social situations where we are not at ease. It can be at a meeting, a party or even a mom and baby group.
Maybe we don’t know anyone. Maybe we are shy and the crowd is big. Maybe we just feel like we don’t belong. Maybe we think that the others don’t like us.
A friendly person who makes it a point to come over and start talking to you can make all the difference. All of a sudden you are not on your own. You now know at least one other person. They are being friendly and trying to make you feel comfortable.
I know that when I am in a social situation I am “at home” in, I try to find people who may not be so that I can talk to them. Why do I keep an eye out for such people? Because I know how it can feel to be on the other side.
These days I am a lot more comfortable going into situations alone. I wasn’t always as confident so I try to remember that feeling so that I might be able to ease someone else’s discomfort.

So how did you guys all do with this week’s Kindness Club Week 12 prompt of introducing yourself to someone you don’t know who looks lonely, bewildered or uncomfortable at some kind of social function.
Go on and write a post about your experiences. (Especially those of you who attended Cybermummy.)
Or you can capture the prompt as a photograph.
(Don’t forget to use the URL from your post not your site). The link will be open for a week. (Sunday-Sunday)
Make sure to come back on Tuesday for this week’s Kindness Club Prompt.
Can’t wait to hear your stories and see your pictures.

That’s so true, and so easy to forget! Thank you for the reminder.
Thanks so much.
The great thing about CyberMummy – hope you had a great time – was that despite having to walk into a group of virtual strangers, everyone was so friendly. I had the odd moment thinking, ‘Eeek, know no-one’, but then I took a deep breath and went up to someone and said hello. Everyone there had so much in common that it really did feel like a giant coffee morning with friends and acquaintances.
I wasn’t there.
Sounds like everyone enjoyed themselves. If you blog about it in this context of meeting and introducing yourselves please feel free to link up your post.
thank for the gentle reminder, susie. i tend to focus so very much on ensuring that my children are kind and inclusive. it’s also important to remember to be that way myself! i really appreciate you putting that out there!
Sometimes we do try to get our kids to behave in ways we need to do better at ourselves.
I did I bounded up like a chocolate Labrador on speed and said hi to everyone! But then I do that sort of thing. That’s how I met my husband.
LOL-love your way with words.
