Smiling Costs Nothing, But Gives So Much

This week’s Kindness Club prompt was to smile at a stranger, at least one, every day. That’s not a problem for me, because I like smiling at people. Hmm, maybe that’s why I picked the prompt.
I had a reminder this past week of why it is so important to smile as much as possible.
I worked an evening shift and when I got to work at 2:30pm, there was an oncology patient who had already been waiting 3 hours for an ultrasound to rule out a leg thrombosis. Until she was released from the ER it was over 6 hours. For a woman going through chemotherapy, that’s a long time to be stuck in the ER with sick people and to be sitting on uncomfortable chairs.
For the 3 hours I was in charge of her care, I smiled at her and other patients, updated them and was patient. The best gift this particular patient could have given me was her thanks and a compliment before she left. She commented on how nice it was that I smiled all the time and how much she appreciated it.
It really made my day. I helped her day along by smiling and she helped by day by reaffirming what I knew. That a smile can make a difference.
We have no excuse. A smile doesn’t cost anything. It’s free to give, but it is worth so much to those who receive it.
So get smiling and have a great day.

If you have the time it would be great if you could try and read and comment on some of the other entries.
This Mclinky will be open to new links until Tuesday when I post this week’s new prompt.
Thanks for taking part and being kind!

Having been housebound this week with my sons chicken pox and then my own lurgy, I havent had any strangers to smile at, however I do believe in the power of a smile, this was a great prompt. x
Am sending a big smile your way to help heal you!
Thats lovely Susie, and just as lovely that the patient said it to you too, it takes so little to show appreciation and be kind to others:) Jen.
It really was so nice of her to tell me.
I agree wholeheartedly! I smile as much as possible, it helps me feel better and is 99.9% successful at getting smiles back. The 0.01% who look at me like I’m a nutter, well they are beyond help in my view
MD xx
It really does make a difference in my day when i do.
You are so right — I think I needed that reminder. It is so easy to forget
Big smile right back at you!
What a great story! As you know I am a keen smiler. Despite now living in England where the ‘stiff upper lip’ still rules, I assail everyone with a smile. This past week I have worked on this assignment – I should have kept a tally… but I had at least three blanks, one smile back, and one boozy over-interested-flirting-with-me-grin. Run Vix Run!
And did you write about it? Write Vix Write!
I did write it up. See I put it up there! LOL

You are surely an angel
I wrote this about a happy place I visited once upon a time:
It’s so warm and friendly it makes smile,
behind the eyes,
to the top of my brain,
to the tip of my toes.
Smiling is infectious. Spread the smile virus
Thanks-but I can assure you that sadly I am far from being an angel.
Lovely poem.
