Be Kind To Yourself

Being kind to yourself. That is often something we tend to overlook. Or it is usually the first thing to “go” when we are overworked or stressed.

We are aware that we need to treat others kindly, but tend to forget that kindness starts at home, and with yourself.

If we don’t remember to be kind to ourselves, we don’t have the energy, strength or spirit to treat the ones we love with the kindness they too deserve from us.

We all need to remember to take time out to recharge our own batteries. Not an easy thing to do with all the obligations we have. Whether it is our job, our family, our house or all of the above, we have busy lives.

As you all know from my previous post, my husband has been stuck in London since Thursday and no final answer as to when he is going to get home.

Over the Sabbath, I usually get a really nice long nap and hubby takes care of our youngest when she wakes from her nap. Sadly, he was not home this weekend to do that. The kids were missing him as was I and they were a bit more of a handful because of their disappointment of not having him home.

Add to that mix my grandmother coming for the weekend and I really had my hands full. (Before anyone asks, I had invited my grandmother before my husband became officially stranded, and it is not easy to tell old people at the last minute that their plans have changed. I didn’t have the heart to do that to her.) My grandmother is usually difficult and cries a bit and is generally unpredictable. Thankfully my husband usually helps out quite a lot with her. This weekend I was on my own.

But I still decided to make the time to have some me myself time. (Kind of hard with a little delicious daughter who senses the moment you want some quiet time and says but I want you to hold me…..) My older daughter was a big help and looked after her sister as I gave myself some time all to myself.

Or shall I say that I shared my me time with someone very inspiring. Yup, it was just me and Oprah. And I actually learned something new about Oprah. Her name the way we know it is all just a typo on her birth certificate. Her name was meant to be Orpah as in one of the characters in the Bible’s Book of Ruth.

So if I managed to get some time to myself, I am sure you all did as well.

(And I was a bit kind to myself in that I did not stress about not getting a blog post out yesterday evening. Was too tired and distracted.)

So what have you all done this week to be kind to yourselves?

At the bottom of this post is a McLinky where you can leave your name and the URL to your kindness post. (The URL should be to your post not just to your blog.) If you want you can leave me a comment to let me know you’ve taken part and what you thought about this week’s “task”.

If you have the time it would be great if you could try and read and comment on some of the other entries.

This Mclinky will be open to new links until Tuesday when I post this week’s new prompt.

Thanks for taking part and being kind!

I am me and also lots of other things like a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a daughter in law, a sister in law, a friend, an oncology nurse, a blogger, a life coach in training, an avid book reader, a chauffeur, a chef, a shopper, a maid and on some days a bit overwhelmed. On this blog I share my journey of striving to see the best in everyone and everything. Strive, because I don't always manage to. Yup, I am human. I would love to have you join me in learning lessons in positivity from life.

I got excited there – I thought someone had found a linky tool that wasn’t affiliated with that Brent Riggs – then I clicked on it :(

    1. Susie says:

ummm-who is brent riggs and why aren’t you happy he has a cool widget?

      1. MrsW says:

He’s a right-wing US christian nutter – he posts photo of his child receiving chemo – he named MckLinky in some wierd homage to Jennifer MckMama McKinney – he gives me the heebie-jeebies – and every MckLinky out there links back to him – .

That’s just my opinion tho – you should go read him, let me know what you think :)

I will look later when i get a chance, but in general as long as someone is not forcing their views or religion on me, then I don’t have a right to say anything.

I think that things can be good and helpful things even if you don’t like where they come from. Just because someone is nuts, doesn’t mean that a great tool like the Mclinky shouldn’t be used.

But I respect your right to be heebie jeebied as well. :-)

I have put up my McLinky :D I cheated a little as I always make an effort to give myself some ‘me time’ every day. BUT, I gave myself a huge treat this week, and being honest, if I hadn’t had ‘The Kindness Club’ at the back of my mind I probably would have talked myself out of it by being reasonable lol.

Just one thing, I couldn’t find the HTML code for the club logo, I was sure I had saved it so that I would have it. I copied and pasted the picture from here but the HTML would be better as it would link back to you Susie:)

Off to view the other entrants now:)

    1. Susie says:

Your cheat was fine-love killing two birds with one stone. LOL As far as badges-thought it was all fine but need to be able to concentrate and see what’s wrong when my eyes are not tired.

  6. Emma says:

Mine wasn’t specifically linked to the club this week but having cut down on my hours at work I think I’ve been kind enough to myself to join :-)

      Kind is kind!
