The Kindness Club Debuts: Week 1

Today is the debut of The Kindness Club. I am hoping that in it’s own small way, through a weekly prompt, we will together succeed in making the world we live in a better place. A better place for ourselves, our children, our families, our friends and even for strangers.

Since I started blogging I have been inundated with kindness. I have had loads of advice and help from people who don’t know me. I know their kindness has made all the difference in the world to me.

Today, I am hoping that with the Kindness Club, in little ways, one week at a time, we can make that same difference for others.

Every Tuesday I will give you a prompt of an act of kindness to do. Hopefully you will all manage to do the act of kindness and even blog about it. On Sunday I will put up a Mclinky so you can link your blog post to my Kindness post. The Mclinky will stay open until Tuesday when I put up a new prompt.

So what act of kindness have I chosen for The Kindness Club debut? I thought long and hard about it and decided that this week’s prompt is : Be Kind To Yourself.

Yes, you heard me right. Be kind to yourself. Why? Because if you are not kind to yourself, you cannot be kind to anyone else. You need to treat yourself right first.

So the exact prompt is: Be nice to yourself and take 15 minutes a day to do something only for yourself. Something purely selfish and indulgent.

I know we are all busy and I know we have loads to do, but anyone can find 15 minutes a day for themselves. Enlist your spouse’s or kid’s help to get the ME time, but do it. Then write about it and come back starting Sunday to tell me and everyone else about it.

If anyone who is not a blogger wants to join in please feel free to email at and I will put your story up on my blog.

Good luck! And Thanks!

P.S. Please feel free to put a Kindness Club Badge on your blog. Go here for instructions.

I am me and also lots of other things like a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a daughter in law, a sister in law, a friend, an oncology nurse, a blogger, a life coach in training, an avid book reader, a chauffeur, a chef, a shopper, a maid and on some days a bit overwhelmed. On this blog I share my journey of striving to see the best in everyone and everything. Strive, because I don't always manage to. Yup, I am human. I would love to have you join me in learning lessons in positivity from life.

  8. Vegemitevix says:

Ok does it matter when the 15 mins is? I have some time between 2am-3am when I’m not doing anything!

As you know love the idea. xx

    1. Susie says:

Umm-I think you should give yourself 15 minutes when you are feeling tired in the afternoon. But guess if 2-3 is the only option.

  9. Magic Mummy says:

  11. Kailexmummy says:

We cleaned out the hot tub at the weekend, a present to ourselves when we were DINKY’s, we now can’t afford to run it all year – yes, I can be persuaded to get in it for 15 minutes each evening hehehe!

    1. Susie says:

      LOL-am sure.

  12. The NDM says:

    What a wonderful idea!

Of course, I’ve only gone and read this post on the first day (of twelve) when my partner is away for work. It is unlikely I’ll get even fifteen seconds to myself any time soon – however, if someone offers to help me out, I’m going to stop playing the martyr and say YES.

    1. Susie says:

      Thanks.

Good for you for agreeing to take help if offered. I still think you can get 15 minutes for yourself. Maybe scatter 5 minutes at a time during the day.

  13. jessie says:

this was a challenge. you happened to pick one of my busiest days because it’s the one day a month i had to work outside the house! was it a present to myself yesterday that i didn’t do any housework? (but now it’s all here this morning waiting for me). i did my best. i had a second cup of (decaf) cappuccino as a treat, even though it takes 6 minutes to make (while holding a baby and a toddler screaming at my skirts) and i had to gulp it down. a rather feeble attempt. but i gave it the old college try!

    1. Susie says:

Ahh-but Jessie, this is for everyday-it is a habit to build for yourself. If you want btw, you can write a blog post about being kind to yourslef and come back on Sunday and link your blog post in.

  14. Emma says:

Lovely idea Susie and as I’ve already been kind to myself this week I will definitely be joining in! Shall look forward to it :-)

    1. Susie says:

Looking forward to reading about it. Don’t forget to be kind to yourself and take time out every day!

  15. [...] We are often the hardest on ourselves and pamper ourselves the least which is why the first week’s kindness club prompt was to be kind to yourself. [...]

Thanks, Susie, for sharing your time, energy, generosity, and kind-heartedness with the world! I love the serendipity nature of the Internet and search engines: I found your blog while searching for the Nelson Mandela quote about how nothing is insignificant. Some “way station” web site between my search engine results page linked me to your blog. I will tell others about The Kindness Club and its brilliant weekly prompts. I also use a wonderful online greeting cards and gifts system to act on my daily promptings to send kindness to others. It’s called SendOutCards (SOC). To learn more about it, visit this short link to the SOC page on my web site:
