Everyone Has Their Issues They Need To Work Through
This post is not usually the type I write on my blog. If my writing has to do with someone else’s feelings and emotions, I usually out of respect for them choose not to post about it on my blog unless they agree to it. I decided to make the exception with this post because I have found that my inability to cope with someone who has a very negative frame of mind has really been … Read entire article »

Especially If You Have Little Kids, Don’t Go Out Without Tissues Or Wipes
Actually even if you have no kids don’t go anywhere without tissues or wipes handy. Keep some in your car and some in your bag. My little one is four (where did the time fly???) so going out with her doesn’t necessitate taking along a diaper bad crammed with every possibly useful item under the sun. Actually most times, I go out with almost nothing. When I am smart I bring along some food. Yesterday we had … Read entire article »

It Takes But A Moment To Make The World A Cleaner Place
I used to walk by trash on the floor without thinking it was my responsibility. I didn’t put it there so why should I pick it up? Besides, it’s on the street, it’s not in my house or garden. I now have a different view. Sure I didn’t put the garbage there, but if I don’t pick it up, I have also not made the world a cleaner nicer place. It takes a few seconds to pick … Read entire article »

Sometimes Just Getting Out Of Bed Is Enough
This is a post I have been thinking about writing for a while. It’s taken a few blog posts by others this past week to make me want to sit down and write this. Among the posts that got me thinking was a prompt on depression for the Writing Workshop on Sleep is for the Weak, a powerful post called Conversations by Jay and a response post to Jay by Kerry-Anne at Falling Starlet. I think in … Read entire article »

Something Dreaded Can End Up Wowing You
I don’t know about anyone else, but as I have gotten older (*sob, sob*) I have gotten more claustrophobic in crowded situations. I would rather park a mile away instead of trying to find a parking spot in a crowded garage. When I have to go to crowded events (like my eldest’s swearing in ceremony with 600 soldiers and their families) I dread it. I was born in New York and used to be a typical … Read entire article »

Bright Spots Can Be Found In The Bleakest Conditions
My original title was: Even While Being Tortured You Can Find Some Bright Spots. Since I try to write a positive blog and find the good points in things, I decided it was too negative of a title. (Notice I did find a way to work it in though.) At this point you must be thinking that something absolutely horrible has happened to me. You can breathe easy even though I was indeed tortured. In the scheme of … Read entire article »

Fears Can Turn Into Fascination And Appreciation
Can you guess I am talking about fears of animals and creatures big and small? I am not usually an animal person. Let me qualify that. When animals jump, growl, sniff, rub up agianst or lick me it can freak me out. Scorpions (which I have found in the past in my house), snakes (which I have seen once, which is once too many times, on my lawn) and mice (which tormented me when I worked in a summer … Read entire article »

The Kindness Club: Week 11 Prompt
It’s week 11 of the Kindness Club. Thanks to all of you who have been reading and joining in even if you are not posting or commenting. Last week’s Kindness Club prompt was to visit or help someone who is sick. When helping people who are sick it is always important to ask and help with what is needed by the sick person and their family. It is about their needs, not ours. Sometimes a visit is not … Read entire article »

Connections Are Meant To Be Used
I am a big believer in helping people. If someone needs my help or advice and I am able to help, I am glad to do so. However I did use to have a hang up with asking others for help. I would save my requests and favors for extreme emergencies. After the past few months and a number of friend and family medical related issues, I think I have finally landed in the real world. Yes, … Read entire article »

Helping Others Should Not Be About You
Helping others means doing what is best and most needed for the person you are helping. It should not be about your needs. Your help should be given for the right reasons and more importantly you should make sure you are giving the right type of help. At times people just don’t think. They can be well meaning but totally clueless. Other times their actions can border on stupidity. And sometimes people can deceive themselves into thinking they are … Read entire article »

Life Is Too Short To Wear Uncomfortable Shoes
Maybe it is just me. I have always been more practical than fashion conscious. Okay, I’ll come clean. I have no fashion sense. Maybe that’s why I can’t understand the appeal of wearing something that is not comfortable. (Or maybe I am just smart.) High on my list of clothing items that should never be uncomfortable is shoes. I cannot comprehend how people can torture themselves by wearing uncomfortable shoes, even if they look great. Today I wore a … Read entire article »

Short And Sweet Is Best
Short and sweet is best. My alternate title was Kids & Parents Have Limited Patience So Please Don’t Torture Them. Can you tell I just came home from an end of the year party/recital thingee? (Words have failed me in more ways than just not being able to remember what to call the end of the year party in English.) You can’t blame me though can you? Nope, not after hubby and I spent two hours on our … Read entire article »

Motherhood Is The Greatest Gift & The Greatest Challenge
From the moment my first child was born my heart and soul knew what a great gift I received. After my first sleepless night, it dawned on me that maybe motherhood might not only be about joy. It started to sink in that motherhood was going to bring quite a few challenges my way. Fast forward almost twenty years and that’s where I am now. In the midst of daily joys and daily challenges. I am many things: … Read entire article »

Memory and Memories Are More Appreciated With Age
I don’t know about anyone else, but my memory isn’t what it used to be. Once upon a time I actually took my good memory for granted. I remembered birthdays, anniversaries and important things like peoples’ names. When I first met my husband and when my older kids were little, I was sure I would remember all the little details. We took pictures and videos of course and there was no doubt in my mind that all … Read entire article »

The Kindness Club: Week 10 Prompt
It’s week 10 of the Kindness Club. Thanks to all of you who have been reading and joining in even if you are not posting or commenting. Last week’s Kindness Club prompt was to give or lend a book you own that you really enjoyed to someone else. Books were meant to be shared. They are the common language that brings people together. I hope you enjoyed lending or giving out your books. Try to continue doing that … Read entire article »

Not Everyone Is Going To Like You
Not everyone is going to like you. That may seem like a simple enough statement. Simple to say but hard hard for people to accept and come to terms with. It seems like human nature is to want everyone to like you and approve of you. We spend so much time trying to live up to what we think others want us to be, say, and do. We spend so much time and effort trying to get people … Read entire article »

Books Are Best Shared
What are books? For me books are entertainment and knowledge. Books teach me things I don’t know. They are the door to a vast range of emotions. Books make me feel good and on rare occasions they make me feel bad. They help me understand things about myself, about people and about the world. Books are an escape. Books are about finding yourself. Whatever books are for you, books are best when shared. When I read a book that I … Read entire article »

Laundry Like Life Is Full Of Surprises: Some Better Than Others
I have a little container on the shelf above my washing machine. It’s for all the stuff that gets rescued/salvaged from the washing machine, all the non clothing items that seem to find their way into the washer. I’ve dubbed the container Mom’s Tips. Here and there I get lucky and make some money while doing the wash. Usually just spare change, although every once in a while I hit the jackpot and find bills. Of course more … Read entire article »

Live Life Without Blinders On
We are busy. We are preoccupied with life and things we need to get done. How often do we not notice things around us because we have “blinders” on. We walk right by things, important things, beautiful things, because we are too distracted to notice them. I am talking literally and figuratively. A few weeks ago I went to get a massage. (I had a lovely gift certificate from a few friends from my birthday a few months … Read entire article »
